I was so very lucky that this second book in the series had come out on BookBub at a discount or I would have never found this author and her incredible series. After reading just the first chapter of the second book, I had to stop and buy the first. In this second novel, we move to Octavion and Lydia/Al's world. The author has done such a remarkable job with the characters, it is very easy to get completely immersed in this story. The descriptions of their world and its inhabitants immediately draw you in and make you care about what happens. The choices that have to be made make sense from the characters points of view and makes ;you experience their joy or frustration or sadness right along with them. I think the author did a remarkable job on Lydia/Al's character, making the one character really two completely separate beings that the readers love equally. I am totally smitten with this series and can't wait to get to the third book. It is my wonderful luck that it is already out :)

Broken #2 in The Crystor Series CK Bryant 9781477603000 Books Reviews

Great series, great book, excellent characters. Wanted to keep reading!

This book really should be read immediately after reading Bound (book#1), or at least reviewing the end. It jumps right into the scenes as if immediately following.the.ending of Bound, and would probably be confusing otherwise. Some characters we don't see much of again, and new or other familiar faces are explored in depth. World-class building is excellent, and is entwined with the storyline seamlessly.

I would advise an editor, simple word exchanges began to really bother me part-way through the book. (exvile instead of vial) but those changes are simple to fix.

Really, I want to see the third book- tried to go buy it but although it was to be out in 2013 it appears to he unavailable yet. worth waiting for it, and worth buying them all!
This story is so engaging I just can't stop reading. At work during down time I find myself reading at my desk any chance I get. Oh I just love Octavians' character! Not once did I find myself upset at him. I actually like all the main characters like Ussay and the rest of the royals BUT Kira is one IRRITATING person. I really can't stand Kira she just manages to do the dumbest things and she is so stubborn and it always ends up in her getting into trouble and dragging someone else into her mess. I also I don't like how Octavian would tell her something or explain something to her and she still gets upset and surprised when the same situation arises. For example I remember in the first book (I think) Octavian tells her going through walls hurts and its hard but in Broken she still requests it ugh! Or when Octavian clearly reminds her that if he sees a place he will be able to jump to it this is why he shouldn't see inside the villagers' houses. So why did get upset and surprised when he said he couldn't go in the shop?!! Ugh This book is great except Kira.
Before I read Broken, I had the pleasure of reading Bound. Bound is the first book in The Crystor Series. I loved Bound and was beyond thrilled when I found out the adventure would continue in Broken.

This book takes place in another world and Earth is left behind. I was a little unsure at first because I am more of an urban fantasy fan. I like a little fantasy in my real life, not a whole world of fantasy. I have to admit, this book was amazing and I was engrossed in it for the better part of a day.

Kira and Octavion made such a great couple, full of normal insecurities in a blooming relationship. I enjoyed seeing it from Octavion's point of view, even though I wasn't sure I would. Lydia isn't present in this book and for that I was a little bummed. Alteria was present for a short while though.

The author did such a great job pulling images from your imagination with her descriptive writing. I felt like I was there in Xantara. New friends were introduced, adding to a web of complex characters. I liked that intricacy she weaved.

I have finished both Bound and Broken with a frenzy. Now I am hoping for a third book in a speedy like fashion. I am dying to find out what happened.

If you like fantasy with some romance, then this series is for you. I highly recommend it, Bound and Broken are a great start to a new series.
For me, this story evokes feelings of childhood fantasies about the charming prince with a dark side sweeping the commoner off her feet. I was surprised I liked Bound, the first book in this trilogy, as I don't usually read books based on modern teen characters. This one I liked too, but I felt it moved more slowly than the first book, with much more emphasis on the relationship than the politics, intrigue or the action. If you're a sap like me and you really like romance, you'll probably like this. But standard fantasy readers may find this a bit too focused on the emotional aspect of the characters though, in all honesty, I did like the "slice of life" kind of feel it had to it.

I would have probably given this 3 1/2 stars, if I could have, but I do feel it deserves more than three so have gone with four. The reasons for the demerits? One, I slowly became annoyed with the protagonist's, Kira's, incessant insecurity and jealousy. I think it would have been more tolerable, and even interesting, if her beginnings as a "mouse" had been more explored in the first book so that, as the reader, I could see how she HAS grown. As it is, I found her immaturity getting a little annoying. I tried to remind myself she was only 17 or 18 but that didn't seem to help. There's a little disconnect there between the character and me as the reader. I didn't feel the books helped me sufficiently understand and sympathize with her. Secondly, I was seriously annoyed with the abrupt ending. I'm just reading along and - wham! -- no more story! In my opinion, an end should feel like and, even if it is just a mini-resolution in a larger story.

Overall, I would still recommend these books. They are a pleasant enough diversion for a rainy day and I DO intend to read the final installment when it is released.
